Private Medical Insurance

In Germany, employees who earn above a certain threshold limit (EUR 66,600 in 2023) are considered a "freiwillig gesetzlich Versicherter" and can choose to leave the statutory health insurance system and enroll in a private medical insurance plan (Private Krankenversicherung or PKV).

Enrollment

Employees are required to submit their PKV membership certificates within five days from the hire date to payroll to ensure contributions are paid to the right Krankenkassen. Employees with dependent children should complete this Proof of Parental Status Form and attach the relevant supporting documents to benefit from reduced Long-Term Care contribution rates. Your contribution reduction will be backdated to the beginning of the month in which the form is submitted.

Contributions

Employees who purchase private medical insurance are entitled to the same employer subsidies as state-insured employees. Databricks reimburses employees 50% of the cost of Private Medical Insurance for employees and their dependents up to EUR 403 per month (as of 2023), as well as 50% of the cost of Private Long-Term Care Insurance up to EUR 76 per month (as of 2023).
